Online Voices on the Socioeconomic Impact of COVID19 Interventions in Marginalized Urban Communities

Posted on August 8, 2020August 28, 2025 By PASCDR Admin

Following the four-part online forum series “From Risk to Resilience”, the UP Resilience Institute (UPRI), UP College of Social Work and Community Development (UP CSWCD) and the Philippine Academic Society for Climate and Disaster Resilience (PASCDR), held the “Online Voices on the Socio-Economic Impact of COVID 19 Interventions in Marginalized Urban Communities”, a two-part research forum presenting the initial online data and assessments on the socio-economic impacts of COVID 19 interventions. The research forum was held via Zoom last July 29 and August 5, 2020 with the livestream of the sessions available on the PASCDR Facebook page.

The research forum presented the response of Filipinos to the quarantine protocols implemented by the national government as shown on various social media platforms. Topics discussed include the historical aspect of research and how the government responded to past diseases, impacts of the pandemic on the economy of the urban poor, impact of information and crisis communication on people’s responses and behaviors during the pandemic, impact of COVID-19 to health care, psychosocial impact of COVID-19 in urban poor communities, and social conflicts and social solidarity that occurred during the pandemic. Led by Dr. Emmanuel Luna, Director of Education of the UP Resilience Institute, researchers from the UP CSWCD brought more awareness to the voices of the marginalized communities as shown online through their research.

About 200 people participated via Zoom and more than 600 Facebook live views was garnered on the day of each session.
